Mental Health America of Vigo County strives to prevent homelessness by ensuring that safe, affordable housing is available to persons with mental illness. We collaborate with area landlords to provide housing to individuals that are homeless and disabled through our Sweet Home Terre Firma program.
Eligible participants can be approved for federal rental assistance in the Shelter Plus Care program. Shelter Plus Care is a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) initiative designed to provide housing and supportive services on a long-term basis for disabled persons who are homeless and their families.
Additionally, our staff works with clients to guarantee that they are engaged with community services that will prevent them from re-entering homelessness.
Due to overwhelming demand, there is limited availability of these approved housing units. You must meet HUD eligibility criteria in order to apply. Please contact us at 812.232.5681 Ext, 102 for more information.
