Mental Health America of Vigo County now provides street outreach services to identify individuals experiencing homelessness and who also have a mental illness.
Mental Health America of Vigo County, Inc. was recently awarded a grant to implement a homeless outreach program in Indiana Region 7 from Indiana Division of Mental Health & Addictions (DMHA) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
Daniel’s Project, a PATH program, was created to provide street outreach to identify individuals experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless to offer assistance in linking to community resources. This program is aimed at closing the service gap for this population and allowing the opportunity to receive the needed services to work toward self-sufficiency. Daniel’s Project serves the following counties:
Vigo, Clay, Parke, Putnam, Sullivan, Vermillion
Eligible individuals must be considered literally homeless by the definition of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) or be at risk of homelessness, including facing eviction. Individuals must also possess a serious mental illness (SMI) to be enrolled in the program.
